A girl slept near rose bushes near the village of Rosino, Bulgaria. The oil rose was brought to the country in the 16th century and must be picked by hand at sunrise to achieve the highest concentration of oil. Bulgaria is one of the highest producers of rose oil in the world, along with Turkey.

A man in Okcular village in eastern Turkey carried bedding a day after a strong earthquake hit early Monday. At least 51 people died when an earthquake of 6.0 magnitude struck early Monday in eastern Turkey, officials in the region said. One village was largely destroyed and four others were heavily damaged.
